It is said that Tibetan King SongtsenGampo built 108 temples in a single day to pin down a giant ogress whose body lay across the Himalayas. JampaLakhang and KyichuLhakhang are two of the temples in Bhutan among those 108 temples built by him. JampaLhakhang was built in 659 A.D. Maitreya Buddha also known as JowoJampa, the future Buddha is housed in the inner shrine of the temple.In 14th century, the Terton Dorji Lingpa discovered several treasures from this temple.
