Located at an altitude of around 2,800 metres above sea level, this monastery offers a majestic view of Phobjikha valley. It was built in 1613 by Je Kuenga Gyeltshen.Potato grows well in this valley, has a little touch of a modern world and set as a model of traditional Bhutanese settlement. There are around 700 bird species in Bhutan of which ten are in danger of extinction includingthrungthrungkarm (Black-necked crane) which migrates from Tibet to Phobjikha, Bomdeling, Geytsa and Chumey during winter.
