Thimphu, the capital city lies in the bank of river Wang Chhu at an elevation of 7,600 ft above sea level. This capital city also functions as a district for the people of Thimphu under which there is a sub-district (Dungkhag) and eight blocks (gewogs). It is the summer residence of the national clergy and His Holiness the Je Khenpo, the Chief Abbot of Bhutan.
